Shoulder Pain Self Test

Is Your Shoulder Trying to Tell You Something?

Shoulder pain often starts small—a little soreness reaching into a cabinet, discomfort throwing a ball, or pain sleeping on one side.

The challenge is knowing when it’s something that will improve on its own and when it’s time to have it evaluated.

That’s why our therapists put together a quick at-home shoulder screen

This simple screening isn’t designed to diagnose an injury, but it can help you recognize signs that your shoulder may benefit from a professional evaluation.

What You’re Looking For

After completing the screen, ask yourself:

  • Did one shoulder move differently than the other?

  • Did you experience pain?

  • Was your range of motion limited?

  • Did weakness surprise you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, your shoulder may be asking for more attention.

Don’t Ignore Shoulder Pain

Many people wait until everyday activities become difficult before seeking help.

Common signs it’s time to schedule an evaluation include:

  • Pain lasting more than two weeks

  • Difficulty reaching overhead

  • Pain while sleeping

  • Weakness lifting everyday objects

  • Pain that keeps returning
